• Roles and Mission

    The diseases that OCEAC monitoring system is being set up includes a wide CIESPAC development project in center of excellence. It comprises three core activities are Training, Research and Monitoring diseases in Central Africa. Hosted at CIESPAC in Brazzaville, this program is in close cooperation with the countries of Central Africa through their Operational Disease Surveillance System (SOSM) to have a health monitoring system capable of giving early warning and organize the response in due course. The operationalization of the regional system of disease surveillance is to:

    • Develop and implement a regional early warning surveillance and response against major selected priority diseases;
    • Establish, in the context of the Congo Basin;
    • A statistical information system for research;
    • Monitoring and prediction;
    • Strengthen the capacity of surveillance and response against diseases through training and infrastructure improvements;
    • Ensure the sustainability of this regional program ownership by the States of the region.
  • Structure and Organization

    The system is based on an organized structure in two essential pillars: the actors of the monitoring system on the one hand and, on the other device therein, formed among others by

    • the network of scientific and technical structures (regional, country, etc.),
    • monitoring tools,
    • analysis tools,
    • information tools, indicators, etc.
  • Strategic priorities and monitoring methods and procedures

    Thanks to advances in geographic information and mapping technologies and a better appreciation of their potential, it will be possible at regional disease surveillance system to develop its potential planning, analysis and monitoring. Geographic information systems (GIS) and maps they produce will be useful to strengthen the whole process of managing and analyzing epidemiological surveillance data.

    CIESPAC intervene in:

    • The collection of epidemiological data
    • Assistance to countries in GIS
    • Participation in the implementation of this monitoring system in the country.
