The diseases that OCEAC monitoring system is being set up includes a wide CIESPAC development project in center of excellence. It comprises three core activities are Training, Research and Monitoring diseases in Central Africa. Hosted at CIESPAC in Brazzaville, this program is in close cooperation with the countries of Central Africa through their Operational Disease Surveillance System (SOSM) to have a health monitoring system capable of giving early warning and organize the response in due course. The operationalization of the regional system of disease surveillance is to:
- Develop and implement a regional early warning surveillance and response against major selected priority diseases;
- Establish, in the context of the Congo Basin;
- A statistical information system for research;
- Monitoring and prediction;
- Strengthen the capacity of surveillance and response against diseases through training and infrastructure improvements;
- Ensure the sustainability of this regional program ownership by the States of the region.
